DISTANCE DISTANCE

JORGE JULVE & NEUS LEDESMA VIDAL /TANZKOLLEKTIVBREMEN

Neus Ledesma Vidal, based in Bremen was in an exchange for several months with visual artist Jorge Julve, based in Valencia: digitally and analogue, by mail and on the digital screen. They sent pixels and pigments back and forth, painted, moved and translated. The result is a performance that wants to make art tangible and asks: How does art come into being? And what happens when art develops from a distance? What influence does memory have on this dialogue? How is the body fragmented into an image, and how are form, texture and colour transformed into movement?

The performance installation is a guest at the Städtische Galerie: large-format paintings meet dancing bodies and are in continuous conversation. They transform and manipulate each other and the proximity between art and the audience takes up space. Textures and structures become figurative images. The shared space becomes a stage for the desire to play with ever-changing landscapes.

The framework for the performance is the exhibition DAS BLEIBT, of the Städtische Galerie Bremen. Individual pieces from the gallery’s collection served as the starting point for the artistic dialogue.
